Richard Clapton’s album Dark Spaces (1980) featured the hit single ‘Get Back to the Shelter’. It was the seventh studio album of Clapton’s burgeoning career and followed on from his national popularity as a rock star and recording artist of the 1970s with his smash hit single ‘Girls on the Avenue’ (1975) from the album of the same name. In 2010, the Goodbye Tiger album (1977) was listed at Number 15 in the book The 100 Best Australian Albums and his credentials as a music producer include the album for INXS Underneath The Colours (1981). Clapton is one of Australia’s most influential songwriters of late 20th-century rock music. He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1999.
